    Any good Video Creation Tutorials

Hi all, I have got very little knowledge about creating videos and have never uploaded anything to Youtube before.

Is there a really good resource for creating different types of videos and the different ways you can edit it, the best free video editing software (including tutorials) etc etc

I have used the trial version of Camtasia before and have Camtasia Studio now but don't know how to do anything other than record my own screen.

    Thanks,
    Iggs

I'm in Andy Jenkin's Video Boss training and am considering buying Camtasia for its editing features (been using the free version 'Camstudio'). I understand that there are good quality tutorials for Camtasia. Have you gone through the help system?

I'd suggest you are a candidate for our free video secrets course, we teach a lot of this info. Not in the depth that Andy Jenkins does, but it is free compared to $2K or whatever that course was.

$1,997, but who's counting... This was totally worth it - serious, in-depth, immediately usable info, detailed instructions on every aspect of video from before the script to after distribution, and everything in between. For instance, there is a whole multi-part module just on audio - recording for the best sound, editing, noise reduction, sweetening, mixing...

The Tim and Anthony videos are great - all of them. They show you all the reasons to use video, and their recommendation of Animoto was great. I subscribed to Animoto and made some really cool videos. I have used them for lead generation, advertising events and successes. Proper placement of your videos gets lots of response. One I made on model trains was placed in a model train forum and has drawn over 300 views from one single post...

The Video Boss run-up or 'pre-launch' video series for the 'Video Boss' course are also very much worth watching if you can find them. Andy pulled them I believe, but there may still be links to them if you Google "Andy Jenkins" + "Video 1: Video GETS MORE Money than ANYTHING", "Video 2: Little Boss", or "Video 3: Traffic Boss". They seem to have been cached in the productlaunchvault. Although Andy doesn't give away the store, there is a LOT of info in there that you can use - how he does the videos, tools he uses (most are free or have free work-alikes), where to get graphics, strategies for you to use...

Camtasia studio has a free 1 month trial and their training videos are really good. I'd recommend you try this and watch all the videos. The free Camstudio was OK for just recording the screen but the editing functions in Camtasia are way better plus you can mix face shots with powerpoint and screen recordings by just dragging different elements onto a timeline. I haven't got that far with it yet but for the few videos I've produced so far it has been great.
Guys, of the free tools you use in the web video module, do any of them allow you to record a face shot as part of the production or do you have to have a separate video camera?
    cheers,
    Kerry

    Kerry,
I have been debating whether or not to spring for Camtasia. I'm using Camstudio and another video editor to do the editing. Do the the tools in Camtasia take the place of the other editor I have to use? Are there limitations to what Camtasia can do as far as editing? I am running low on C-drive space and would like to dump some of these other apps in favor of a full-featured solution.
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.
    Mike

Just in case you are Mac user's, my vote is for Screenflow for the Mac. We do most of our videos in it these days, and it's a great program. I tried out the Camtasia for Mac trial but didn't like it.

Agree that the free version is a little bit restricted. Also back on topic for Windows users, have you guys used the Jing Project? This is an incredibly powerful free little program (by the people who make camtasia). I think they have a $15 per year option to give you more features.

It's perfect OTHER THAN it restricts length of videos to 5 minutes. I presume they do this so they can keep selling Camtasia. It has a mac version as well. I don't think anything beats it for "quick and dirty" videos. It also records audio, screenshots, as well as screen video.

I got myself a cute little program that "connects" the 5 minute movies together (Mac version is called Simple Movie X) so if I have to, I shoot 5 x 5 minute vids and then use that program to create a full 25 min video.

Try it out, I think you will like it.

I have used Jing to make some OK movies. Now that I know something about making movies, they are embarrassing, but they have been watched a lot and got lots of sign ups and now conversions

The movies it makes are very clear, required very little band-width and are easy to embed. The screen capture is squashed into FLV files. The problem with FLVs is they are compressed in such a way that you cannot edit them without converting them first to an editable format. Other than, it does a great job of taking crisp screen captures and putting them in a very small package.

    Hi Mike,
I'm by no means an advanced video producer but Camtasia studio certainly has any of the editing features I need. You can separate the audio from the video, do picture in picture and hide it or unhide it, chop bits out, split a video & add a slide or another video in the middle, record the screen or a powerpoint or from a web cam, add another audio track such as background music, zoom in and out which is good for screenshots - you can't do this in 1280 x 720 HD for some reason - and lots of other stuff I haven't figured out yet! I'd say try the month trial first and see how you go, it's certainly way ahead of Camstudio. I did find that I need to only have one program running otherwise the sound skips but that's probably to do with my computer not having enough power.. new computer this week!
The reason I didn't go with Animoto was because I couldn't see how to use a webcam and do a face shot & Tim & Anthony plus various others have all said how important it is to show who you are when building a relationship with your customers. But I didn't want to be a full screen, just picture in picture!
Here's an example of difference - I did this in Camstudio with no editing - sound was awful because I didn't have a proper mike and I couldn't do HD / widescreen.
YouTube - Easy Email overview of email sync
I did this video in Camtasia studio - sound jumped a bit but that's my computer. Added Picture in Picture, edited out some long boring bits and I'll give it a shot again at getting rid of the background noise, this was my first attempt!

    Hi, Kerry

I did download the 30 day trial version of Camtasia 7 last night. It does have most of what I have looking for. I ran some clips through it and made a pretty nice video today. A couple of things are bothering me - I cannot figure out how to rotate the PIP (the daughter held the camera sideways for a while), and I cannot find settings for the output codec. Any ideas or hints?

I have a hint regarding the audio - send it through Audacity (freeware) to do the noise reduction, normalization and compression, then drop it back in the audio track...

I also did some PowerPoint screen captures, and the animations are a lot smoother than with Camstudio. I think my cheap laptop is working about as hard as it can. Maybe we should get up a group purchase...
