Need help on WTG standalone insertion

Ok, go easy on me, you lot out there. It's like I have 10 words in my vocabulary, but I need to use 10,000 to explain my problem. I have successfully downloaded the WTG zip file for the blog site and loaded it on to my blog. I didn't do it like Tim did in his video. I went straight to my wordpress blog admin area and uploaded the WTG zip file there. Ok, now I have tried to do the standalone version for my static website. I have logged into my host who uses HSPHERE. This seems to be worlds away from the system Tim uses, but, I have got as far as uploading the WTG standalone web pro zip file, I have gone into "include" and "Config-php", and I have changed the user name and password at the bottom. When I type that domain .com WTG standalone etc. into the address bar, I get an error message 404, cannot find the page. I am trying to open the 'options' area to work on stuff in there. I am so close, but would like some help. PS, I have no idea if my WTG file has been placed in the right section of my website for any of this to make sense. Regards, Des

    Hi there

ok I'll do my best to go easy!

I don't know what HSPHERE is by the way. The 404 error you mention is telling you the the file can not be found. So the most likely cause is, you have placed the files in the wrong place. Did you use file manager to upload them to public_html ?

    Regards

    Tim

More help for WTG standalone insertion

Hello Tim, thanks for the info. I was hoping you knew all about H-sphere. Well,as far as I can ascertain, I go into the FTP file manager section, I click on the main directory, then cgi-bin, then plugins, and while I'm here, I click on an upload button where I can choose the WTG standalone zip file.I can see no reference to public-html in the entire file system. I just did a search within the system, and no matches for this name. Can our learned friends out there come to the rescue. Google H-sphere to get the proper explanation of it. Thanks, Des

    Hi there,

Well you can try putting the zip file in the location where all your files seem to be. It would not be cgi-bin most likely the directory about that. Try putting the file in there and see how you go.

    Regards

    Tim

Hi Tim, thanks for replying. I don't know how you have the time to. I am nearly at the stage where I can say "if you were a sheila, I'd give you a big kiss!" But...., I deleted all my previous efforts, and put the WTG standalone zip file in with my main files, went into' include' and config.php, set the passwords and typed in the long address in the ad. bar. Up comes a whole page of html script describing the admin page. I don't get a box coming up, saying "put your user name and password here" I am able to edit this page if I want. Now, if I back track a bit, I can see in the same list of files as 'config.php', there is a file called ' rss-submit-options'. I can see all the info about the chmod, 733, put your email here, etc, but I am not game to edit it. I have created a folder saying 'myrss' feeds. Is it essential that I have the email included? I don't see anywhere that I have errors showing up highlighted in red. I just don't get an options page come up like you do. Am I all done yet? Regards, Des.

ha ha, well I'm not a sheila so back off lol

You do not need to enter your email address, no. It's optional. Is it working for you? what is the log showing? Red errors may not show up depending on your webhost.

So you have entered a username/password right?

Hi Tim, sorry to take so long. Too busy reading tons of emails about ninja den. Yes, I have put my user name and password in the config.php file. When I look in the 'log' file, it says, "can't find the viewer for this extension". All I do in this website is add photos of my work. Any more clues? Thanks, Des.

Are we talking about the same log file here? That error is not a web traffic genius one. Please go into wordpress, click Web Traffic genius Pro, then click Log.

    What shows in there.

    Cheers

    Tim

Hello Tim, I didn't go away. Following on from the last thread, you asked "what shows in the log file"? Well, I'm not in wordpress. I'm in h-sphere. When I look in WTG-pro, which is on the same page as CGI-bin and My rssfeeds, Webalizer, Images etc., and I look in the 'log' file, it shows the 'latest' and 'whole' files, which appear to be empty.Perhaps this is why it 'can't find the viewer for this extension'. I am stumped. Regards Des.

    Hi Des,

I do not know what H-Sphere is. When I say look at the logs I mean the web traffic genius log which is a part of the program, please check in there.

    Regards

    Tim
