Question I've Installed WTG but Trouble with Wordpress.org's Editing tools and other things.

    Hi,

I've installed Wordpress.org 3.0 with WTG already on it on my HostGator account. The instillation was to my www.species-universe.com/blog page and went pretty easy once I realized I needed to upload it to the Homepage directory and not the FTP directory.

I've noticed that the Wordpress.org 3.0 doesn't have complete editing tools for writing blogs. I've looked for the option to change this to full editing tools but I can't find it? Can someone help me with this? I would like to have a full menu of editing tools including font size, font color, and the other 10 or more editing options left out.

Also, why can't I get YouTube videos to work in my wordpress.org blog posts? It puts up a link but will not post the video to the blog? Can some one help me with this too?

    Thanks for any help.

    John

PS OH, also I would like to set up a splash page at the actual domain name page:
www.species-universe.com to catch email addresses. This is the first time I have ever done this, can someone help explain how I would go about doing this - making a splash page and uploading it to my web hosting page? Thanks.

Exclamation Still looking for a solution!

    Hi Anthony and/or Tim,

I purchased your WTG software and I am using your WordPress.org blog 3.0 with the WTG plugin already in it. I do appreciate having this and can't wait to take full advantage of it.

However, I can't get the editing tools in the WordPress.org blog to work properly-fully, only some of them are there?

I've come across these suggestions in WordPress.org's forum:

    WordPress › Support

(Do you know if John Keegan's suggestion here has anything to do with correcting this issue or not?)

Here is the search page from WordPress.org on this:

    Search › editing tools

If you can find anything in there to help that would be great.

I would love to take full advantage of your WTG tool but I find having incomplete editing tools making it hard to complete posts.
---Video files won't display form YouTube, there is no control of font, color, size, etc.

Please, help me out here so that I can make some posts that Google will not deduct me for and therefor lower my page rankings. Thanks.

PS I've noticed that the Sticky post "PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING :: Known Issues" suggests using WordPress.org 3.0.1.

I'm using WordPress.org's blog software 3.0 from your download page for WTG already plugged into WordPress.org's blog software. I've also noticed that you have recommended not upgrading WordPress.org blog before the resent major upgrade to WTG.

So, is it OK to update WordPress.org's blog to the most current 3.0.1 without upsetting the functionality of the new WTG plugin? Will this fix the issues that I am having using WordPress' editing tools? Thanks.

You should be able to upgrade to 3.0.1 and use WTG. I've done that no problem.

I've been helping out on this thread with WTG issues and I've never seen this one before. I suspect it has nothing to do with WTG.

I had a quick look at the wordpress thread you posted and followed one of the links. This link seems to indicate that it might be a hosting thing and suggests a way around it. : WordPress › Support

I think also you should disable the WTG plugin to see if that is the problem. If you have the same problem after WTG is disabled then you will know that it's not WTG that is the problem

    Hi Brett,

Thanks for the response. I did update to 3.0.1 with no problem however, this didn't fix the editing problem.

I looked at the "WordPress > Support" fix you suggested but I can't find where to edit the "tiny_mce_gzip.php".

I'm not real familiar with doing this so if you can provide any kind of help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I can't really do much as this is a wordpress (or perhaps hosting) issue, and you probably need to be looking in the wordpress support forums or talking to your host.
I did do a bit of a search and found this: WordPress › Support See if that helps.

In saying that.. Given you downloaded the SEO blog from Tim and Anthony I do still have a suspicion that it is some sort of hosting thing. I've used their blog too, as have many others, and I've not had this problem. So that implies there is an external factor

Back again... Perhaps try installing another version of wordpress - not Tim and Anthony's, but one downloaded from wordpress itself - and see if you have the same issue. That will at least pinpoint the problem to the Tim & Anthony version, or point to it being a hosting or other problem

Thumbs up Found a Solution, Happy to Share!

I did get a solution to this situation, a tech at HostGator.com pointed out to me that the Icon at the end of the Editing toolbar opens up the second row of the Editing toolbar where lie hidden the rest of the editing tools.

Stupid me missed that one all together, solutions are so simple and problems so complicated.

Plus, I watched THIS video on YouTube explaining how to embed video (including playlist embedding) into my WordPress.org blogs using the HTML editor, - the Icon above the editing toolbar for embedding videos doesn't work.
