    Google Dance?

    Hello!

I just joined the forum today because I have been thinking about getting the Web Traffic Genius Plugin for some time now and I started checking out the forum to learn a few things.

First..... this is a great forum.... and thanks for having me!

My question is relating to a site that I built... it's about 2mos old, I have all original content on the site (about 6 pages + contact, privacy etc), plus around 20 post pages of really good original content with pictures, videos etc.

I have a little over 200 backlinks coming from Article Underground, Web 2.0, Ezinearticles etc.... all decent backlinks (I think)

The site is on Page 1 for Yahoo and Bing and it was on page 1 for Google.... but it was bouncing around from day to day.... and in the past several weeks it has completely disappeared numerous times only to reappear again.... usually higher than where it was previously.

... But this last time it has disappeared and it's been gone for over a week.... (the main site URL)

However one of my post pages is on page 5 and other pages are lower....

I have read all about the Google dance, but it seems to me that I am being penalized for something.... but what?

In my mind the site should either rank well or not..... why jerk people around.... I can't tell if I'm doing the right thing or not....

I'm trying to keep building content and backlinks but as I said.... I really want to know if I am doing something wrong before I continue to repeat something on other sites that is only going to wind up like this one...

It's crazy but I feel like Google has me afraid to try anything.... if I try the wrong thing possibly my site get's sandboxed back to it's mommy and what the hell is the point of working for weeks to have nothing?

Any enlightenment on this would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Fireboss1

    Hi Fireboss1,

It's a frustrating time isn't it. Did you check if your content is still indexed by google? A sign you are penalised would be having little/no content indexed. Check that first and let us know (the other pages not the one you mentioned).

Has anything else changed in your promotions? What about the sites ranking well for your keyword phrase? Any change there.

Let me know. If you were truly penalised I would think you would not be ranking at all much further down the page than page 5.

    Regards

    Tim

    Hey Tim,

Thanks for taking the time to help out...

I just checked by searching site:myurl.com and I see 163 results listed. I have been watching to see any signs that some of my inner pages/post's were ranking and I have a post that is on page 3 for the main keyword...

My promotions have not really changed much... trying to continue adding original content on a regular basis etc.

However I did go in and add photos to pretty much all of my post's and tried to make my site have a better "user Experience".... and to make the site keep people on longer. I have read that adding photos and video will cause users to stay around because the site is not just a bunch of words.... etc..

I'm thinking by adding photos I may have caused Google to reassess my site?

Since the site has been in the latest disappearing mode I have also changed the theme and added about 6 pages of fresh new content as well as about 5 new posts of nice fresh original content.

If I use the google keyword tool and input my sites URL the keywords that come up are "Exactly" what my site should be ranking for.... perfect keywords...

My main keyword has an "Exact" monthly local search of around 12,000 monthly searches and as I said.... I was on page 1 for about 3 weeks bouncing around positions 5-10...

Thanks very much for your help!

    Kurt

Sorry, missed the email that told me you replied....

I seriously doubt photo's would impact you in a negative way (but anything is possible). For now I believe as hard as it is to do sometimes, to just keep on keeping on, go go go.. I think you should notice an improvement soon.

Please keep us in the loop.

    Regards

    Tim

There are a lot of variables missing here to really say what's going on with your site. One thing I'd like to know is if you have adsense on your site? Also your site is a bit young to be building so many links so quickly which might not look so natural to Google depending on what kind of site you have.

But, keep building links (rotate your anchor text) and adding content and it's likely going to come back just give it some time. Also understand that stable rankings in the serps usually takes longer than months.

    Don't give up!

Thanks for the encouragement to you both!

I do not have adsense on this site.... I am monetizing it with Amazon & a CPA offer.

I do have an update as of this morning my sites main page is now back to page 2 of Google...

It had been on page 10 sort of bouncing around for the last few weeks with one of my inner pages hanging around page 5 or so...

I have continued to post fresh new content and create backlinks while this has been going on....

I really didn't think having around 250 backlinks with a site around 3 months old was all that big a deal.... I've done every single backlink manually so it's not like they are automated in any way.

If what I have done is pushing the envelope then how would my site fair if I were to use the Web Traffic Genius plugin?

The term that I am trying to rank my site for gets around 12,000 exact searches a month... and as I said my site was on page 1 for weeks... (positions 5-10)...

What confuses me most about this game is that from my limited experience if you go after a low traffic term, you need to be in the #1 spot to get any sort of traffic at all.... and if you go after terms that have decent traffic (at least 5,000+ exact)... you need to have quite a lot of backlinks to even have a prayer at getting page 1....

The question then is.... who has time to get all those backlinks manually?
If you get backlinks with automated tools your site get's de-indexed or sandboxed...

Some say it's not the quantity but the Quality of the backlinks.... ?

I have read so many conflicting ideas as to how best to approach this....

I know that I have to actually do it myself and test to see what works best, however the frustration for me is waiting months to see if the approach is the right one or the wrong one...

I don't want to find myself 6 months from now saying this was all a waste of time....

I'm sure what I am going through is not uncommon.... hopefully some other's who read this thread can also pick up something that can help them.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Kurt

One quick tip trying some internal linking. e.g. linking with the appropriate anchor text from another internal page to the page you are looking to rank for.

I've seen great increases in rankings just doing that and no additional external ranking. Keep at it!

    Cheers

@JoshuaHA - Google dance reffers to the continual up and down movment of your pages in the serps. it happens daily.. more often then that even.

    @Fireboss1 -

Get VERY relevant links. Choose 3 keywords you want to rank for to start and build links with anchor text of all three.

Articles, Web 2.0, Forums, Blogs etc etc just remember to keep them all relevant.

I have created a report showing you 6 ways to find High PR, High relevance links with ease, see link in the footer.

You have got to stick at it, as your site begins to gain more authority in the niche you will see that your site stops bouncing around so much.

If you are focusing on a subniche then you may have your work cut out with googles latest update. Have you read about it or even noticed fallout from it?

WTG is awesome and I deffinatly reccomend it - I have reviewed it on my blog here, Yes I have put an affiliate link at the end but I only do this too products I am happy to recommend, You can choose to just read the review then go directly to their site.

    Hope that helps some.

    Sneddo,

Thanks for your comments... I'll check out your blog.

Thankfully, my site has regained it's 1st page ranking. I did continue to build out more highly relevent and original content on the site and it appears as if the site has passed the Google MayDay Quality test.

The term that the site is ranking 1st page for is fairly competitive - around 15,000 (exact) (local) searches per month. The OCI is very high... so it's a "buying" term as well.

I knew when I went after this term that it would be a challenge, however I had never experienced a site get to the top 5 within 3 weeks and then drop into oblivion on multiple occasions before.

I just kept adding more and more fresh (highly targeted) original content, which I bookmarked, backlinked, promoted etc... and each time the site would pop back onto page one.

It seems to me that sites need to get through the domain aging and quality test... and once that happens then the site will settle down.

Unless I guy experiences that first hand it is difficult to understand it reading about it. I know what I did to get my site to page 1 for a competitive term... and how to maintain that through the initial shake down stage that Google put's sites through.

    Thanks again for your comments...

    Fireboss1
