    Rss for backlinks

Does anyone have any good tactics for generating large amounts of backlinks with Rss feeds?

Im not looking for a software product that will do it for me.. I want to understand how it works.

I have got a couple of techniques already but I want to hear other peoples ideas

Look forward to your creative responses

    Hey Sneddo,

The key to RSS in my opinion is your keyword research and to focus on some of the bigger best ranking rss aggregator sites. Feedagg has always been a good one for me.

Also create new feeds from existing feeds and submitting those is a good solution as well.

Try to focus on having multiple entries in your rss feed, some rss aggregators tend to either not approve your feed submissions if they have only one entry in them, but also if they appear "spammy".

If your linking to reputable content it will help your case.

Be sure to have the keyword you are targeting in the title and description, and ideally in the target URL which will more than likely ensure that the backlink you get will have the keyword in it.

I would focus on long tail keywords as a rule.

Another good method I adopt is when I find an RSS feed ranking well in my niche (even on page 2-3, etc) I go and analyze the backlinks for it and see what (if anything) they have done to get it to rank that well.

Yahoo site explorer is the tool of choice generally for this.

Lastly be sure you get some backlinks to your feed as well. Sometimes just a handful of backlinks to the rss feed on the aggregator website will be enough to get your feed ranking well.

    Cheers

Question about creating new feeds from existing feeds using Amazon. I did this with xfruits and then tried to submit to Feedage.com and Feedagg but no go. the two wouldn't take the feed. I used beta.feedvalidator (the feed was good) I've done this (Mesh feeds) with my different blog and web 2.0 post, but just doesn't seem to be working with an existing Amazon feed that I took and created using xfruits or rss.feeds.info

Also how to create product feeds with images in them like the ones at Youtube or Amazon (nice clean looking feeds) better yet is there a advance feed rss course or information site - pdf etc. (not a newbie rss 101 course) that you would suggest and or software besides genius or RSSbot because i have those. If someone with advance marketing knowledge on the subject would like to share that would be great.
thanks in advance. A rss feed marketing plan is what I am looking to put together.

What reason was given? Was it only a single entry in the feed (one url). Some sites are rejecting feeds with only one entry.

Ok there are multiple reasons why some rss aggregators will not take feeds, an invalid feed is just one. See my comment above for another possibly explanation.

They might also have a policy for "commercial only" content that does not add much value (in the case of a feed to an amazon product perhaps).

I've never really had cause to create feeds with images in them, send me an example and I'll take a look. Most likely it's the software the feed is loaded up in that is "recognising" an image and automatically displaying it.

Open a Friendfeed account (keyword relevant) and put all of your website 2.0 accounts in it and any rss feeds associated with them then submit that feed to rss submission sites one feed to rule them all

FriendFeed is good, but last i heard they have "nofollow" tags meaning you might still get traffic but no "link juice" which is what I was using it for.

If that has changed let me know as I would be very interested

    Cheers

    Hay,

I understand the nofollow concept and I know what google say about it. But I find nofollow links to provide value and do seem to help raise my sites in search engines.

I have noticed that you guys talk as if nofollow links are worthless for seo. Have you conducted and tests that definativly prove the power of lack of it accossiated with nofollow links?

    cheers

    Hi Sneddo,

The nofollow tag really tells search engines not to "follow" or give any value to a link. Actually Google invented it to combat blog spam where people used to leave comments with links to get huge rankings. It was and is a way to help you control where your "link juice" goes on a page. That does not mean you won't get traffic as a nofollow link is just a link to a human and they may click and visit it. It's more relating to your site. Being linked from an authority site no doubt helps overall in your rankings, but probably not specifically for a given link.

I do not think by any means nofollow links are worthless, just that all things being equal it's better to focus on links with follow links.

Yes we have done tests in the past, and most SEO people will tell you a similar story I believe. But anything is possible and of course search engine algorithms change all the time.

    Cheers

I was under the impression that yes when they where first brought in how you and google describe their use is exactly how google implimented them.

But then people began to wise to it and a little clever and then link juice / PR scalpting came into play. (I'm sure you know what this is?)

So Google took actions to stop this and this action was to pass back some value to links that are no follow.

Google does not follow the links but it does still count them and it is my belief from my testing that they do pass some value with it.

If Im right then the clue realy is inthe name of these links now. they are no follow not no juice.

But this is all from hearsay / some testing so it could be off / completly wrong but it works for me

    Cheers
