Help! What to do With Blog Posts

    Hi All,

Want to make static page my home page, but what do I do with my posts?

I know I can put them on any page do I just create a page call it posts, but where do I go from there?

Do I put content on that page or just leave it blank?

Do I need to make sure it dosn't get indexed? how do I do that?

Even if it gets no on page SEO do my posts still get ranked? because I use the SEO all in one plugin and the permalink gets set to read what I want it to by editing it, is that all I need to do?

Will I be good to go with that?

    Alan

    Hiya Alan,

You've got a lot of options. If you're building a site that will be pretty big for example, you can organize your posts by category, create a page for each category and then link to the posts from the category pages. A tool that can help you do that (don't worry it's free) is the post-page-associator plugin which I wrote about here: Plugin reviews and SEO help aka, trying to live up to my word. And yes it probably is a good idea to put some content on those category pages.

Now about the rest of your questions.
Do I need to make sure it dosn't get indexed? how do I do that?
Why would you want a page to not get indexed?

Even if it gets no on page SEO do my posts still get ranked? because I use the SEO all in one plugin and the permalink gets set to read what I want it to by editing it, is that all I need to do?
I could write a ton about this questions but I'll try to stay on target First, I think it's impossible to create a page in wordpress and have NO SEO. SEO simply refers to the things we do to a page, both on the page and off the page, that make it easy for search engines to find and categorize the content on that page. Putting your keyword in the title is an example of good on-page SEO. Worpress by default builds internal links to the pages you create. This is another example of good SEO. Having a page with no coding errors, is yet, another example of good SEO. Unfortunately, SEO has come to mean doing black or gray hat stuff but you can do SEO and be completely on the level with Google, or the others.

Any page that gets indexed will get ranked, you might not like the ranking you get but your page is there (unless it gets filtered out) and the way that pages get indexed is by pointing links to them. This is because the web crawlers follow links. If they find a link pointing to a new page on your site, they'll follow that link. If the page is not in the index, it gets added.

Anyways, I think I'll leave it there for now and see if you have any questions.

    Hope that helps,
    Chris
