    Internal links - Wordpress

    Hi folks

I have heard that it"s a good move for SEO to have internal links within my site. I would like to be able to do this but I am scratching my head trying to figure this out. Any ideas or tips on this would be a great help.

    Thanks Gary

    Hiya Gary,

I have to tell you, that internal linking is a total waste of time and is something you should never do under any circumstances! Now if you believe that, I've got this red bridge in San Fransisco, that's only got a couple miles on it, that I'd be willing to give you a killer deal on Building links is a super way to improving your rankings. Here are some different ways to build internal links...

One of the easiest ways to build links is using a plugin. I've used Automatic SEO Links for a while and like it. Basically, what it does is you assign a keyword, a URL. The plugin looks over your site, and anywhere that keyword shows up, it creates a link back to the URL you specified.

Another internal linking idea is having a "Best Of" section in your posts where you can create links to individual posts on the site using the anchors you like. I also like having navigational links at the bottom of my posts. So something like this, Click MYMAINKEYWORD, to go home or Click ANOTHERRELATEDKEYWORDPOST to read more about this topic... where all caps are anchored links to other pages.

A little more advanced internal linking structure are content silos. Content silos are basically sites with a three tiered structure, that also have strict linking rules as you go down the tiers. For example a site about home gym equipment.

Tier one is the homepage and links to the tier two page.

Each tier two page is a subheading of the first tier. So the subject of home gym equipment can be broken up into sections like, weight machines, treadmills, free weight, exercise bikes etc. Each tier two page links back to the home page and to individual articles under each category. The treadmill tier for example would link to various treadmill reviews or other treadmill articles. Tier two pages can also link to other tier two pages but only on the same level.

Tier 3 pages are individual articles linking to each other and to their tier two pages and maybe also to the homepage.

Hopefully that should give you a basic rundown of some internal linking strategies. If you have any more questions, let me know

    Chris

Hi Chris, Thanks for that. I took your advice and found Automatic SEO Links. It has worked well.
    Cheers, Gary
