Is there such thing as the Google sandbox and how can it be overcome?

That's an interesting question...
There is no 100% way of understanding if the Google sandbox exists unless you work for Google. For those who don't know, the "google sandbox" is supposedly a way for Google to keep new domains not ranking in the search engines as well as more established domains.
I guess our own mind movies promotion we did where we got a brand new domain to page one in around 2 days may show a sandbox does not exist.
We've been able to duplicate this numerous times with a brand new domain. But it does seem that in some situations a brand new domain may have problems ranking sometimes.
Certainly if you have the choice, go for an aged domain. You can use our aged domain finder to find out if you want.
If you have an aged domain and a brand new domain with identical content and promote it identically 99 times out of 100 the aged domain will out rank the new domain. We seen this happen numerous times. It seems Bing and Yahoo do not place that much emphasis on aged domains (or as much as Google).
If you think about it, it makes sense. An older domain has been around longer so chances are it's got more of a reputation.
But if you do have a brand new domain my suggesting is to put some good content on there and promote it without fear of being caught in any sandbox.
My personal suspicion is that it does exist, but that it is invoked by a human at google if a new domain hits some form of limit e.g. 1000 backlinks in a day, etc.

Thanks for that Tim!
This is my first site and I think I have followed protocol fairly closely so far. I am getting 2 or 3 hits a day and have been since last Sept. I did the 12 Days to page one and in the process noticed that I am on page one for one certain longtail. I read about the sand box somewhere and wondered if that might be the biggest problem right now.
Thanks Tim!
Quality content that is worthy of social bookmarking, and making that bookmarking easy enough for your readers to use, can bring a LOT of traffic. That traffic seems to impress Google.

Like others have said it does exist but its easy to keep your sites out of it just follow two rules for new sites..
1. Awesome content only.
2. Good backlinks built slowly.
You should then be fine![]()
I actually said there is no 100% way of knowing for sure if it exists, but in any event your advice is good. And I would add that in relation to building backlinks, it appears a consistent number of links each day is more important than the speed, as is the quality of the backlinks.
If there is a major event for example a new website may spring up and get 10,000 backlinks in a day and still rank well because it continued to get that number for a period of time. If the number drops off then it appears to kick something off.
Remember with any advice, it's just our theory based on actual experience, you're mileage may vary, but I think you will do ok following the advice in here.

I was not quoting you you as having said anything different so its largly irrelivent to my post.
I also said building backlinks slowly although I did not put a figure on it, I would imagen most people would understand that 10,000 backlinks in a single day is not slowly lol.
My post was also based on my own extensive testing.. and from my testing I am happy to conclude that the google sandbox is real. It is less prominent in small niches however this is the reason most internet marketers have little problem wih it, they are taught to go after low comp keywords.
Cheers
I always thought that the sand box meant getting "de-indexed" ... is that what you're talking about? If so, you can tell by typing site:www.youdomain.com in the google search bar and if it's there you should be indexed ... if not ... they've taken it out (or not added it in the first place). If that's not what you're talking about ... "never mind" LOL![]()

I am indexed I am just not in the top 100. It might have something to do with the quality of the site but I suspect it has something to do with my link building skills.
Backlinks with relevant anchor text (i.e. your keyword phrases) should be your immediate goal. This will help get you going. Because it's likely that major parts of your competition are probably sites ranking without any seo, you should find you start climbing the rankings quickly once you start link building.
Getting onto page 1 and also to position 1 will likely be harder but this again depends on the strength of your opposition.
