Yahoo & Bing Search Engine Deal

Some updates on recent news on the Bing and Yahoo search engines.

Microsoft and Yahoo announced in February this year that they received clearance from the U.S. and European regulatory authorities to move forward with a search integration deal.

This is a ten-year, search only (technology and traffic) deal.

Microsoft adCenter is probably going to be the platform of choice, and the Yahoo Search Marketing platform may eventually be decommissioned.

It is not yet clear which features and capabilities (if any) will be moved over from Yahoo to Bing!

For those wondering if the search results be the same on both sites?

    It's up in the air...

According to some experts, "Because search results will likely be powered by Bing on both networks, the search results will eventually be similar, although not identical".

Yahoo! and Bing would most likely both want to retain some of the customized search experiences their users are used to.

    What about Google?

"Google is still ahead of the game but Bing is moving ahead in an attempt to start catching up..

It's early days so we should all keep an eye on this.

    Hiya Jeff,

It's not really about anyone being on top; it's more about controlling enough of the search queries to make it worthwhile to optimize for. Currently, yahoo and bing are reportedly 30% market share. Merged, that's a significant figure. So it's worthwhile to optimize for Google and Binghoo. I'm sure anyone would be happy to have traffic from either.

    Hi all,

What about the new move on Bing's part to hook up with Facebook. Still part of the overall agenda to dominate more of the search market, no doubt. I personally feel the move will change slightly for us IMers. We are going to HAVE to now go to more social media outlets for our marketing.

I heard that if logged into your Facebook and you conduct a search on Bing, then you will get search results that are relevant to your query, AND the search might include listings your 'friends' on FB have 'liked' before if they are relevant to your query.

SO, we should really be pushing for as many 'friends' as possible, AND getting as many 'likes' as possible for our sites.

It can only help with our sites anyway. Even if Bing/Facebook never dominate the search world, they will have a decent enough share that it will help our traffic.

Speaking of rumors, what about the rumor of apple buying facebook.

That I would like to see.

    Facebook with a decent UI

Seriously what are apple sitting on, $50Billion+ in CASH. If any company can buy facebook, apple can.

    I'd "Like to see that"

With that said anything that keeps "google" accountable would be a good thing, and a Bing/Facebook integration purely based on the number of users involved would keep 'em honest to a degree.

    Cheers

    Tim

Whenever I perform a search on Google or Bing and try to go to one of the links the search returns, instead of going to the selected site it redirects to another random, obscure search engine. It does not seem to happen with Yahoo.

This is an old post, but I figures there was value in replying.

This sounds very much like a virus of some kind (or malware). Make sure your anti-virus program is up to date. That or you installed a toolbar that has this "feature". In which case the solution would be to un-install the toolbar.

Try doing a search from google.com (typing your search into the google.com website and not in a toolbar).

Hope this helps you (or anyone else stumbling across this thread).
