    Hosting in Country Of Origin

    Hello,

I just obtained a new site with a CMS "dotnetnuke" platform wich requires windows server. My website designer has advised me in the beginning that is is better to host in OZ if your business is .com.au.

However they are hosting in the USA using "Afraid.org".

My question re SEO and how goole treats this, is it better to host locally and does this have an advantage over search results?

The web designer has been telling me porkies!!!! just to get the hosting and charging me a packet!!!!

Depending on your answer what suggestions would to have for hosting a windows based platform and should they be located in OZ.? Any hosting companies you could recommend.

    many thanks, greatlife

    Howdy,

There is generally no real advantage to which country your hosted is situated at.

No real advantage where you host for local results. You might get a little hit advantage from hosting locally, but honestly most of your local rankings will come from your contact details on the site, listing in services like Google Maps/Places, and your links (local council, chamber of commerce, other local sites, etc).

The disadvantage of Oz hosting is also that it is usually more (often a lot more) expensive than overseas hosting.

    Cheers

    Tim
