    Google Local Search Results

Does any one have and info on how to get there site to show up in Google local maps ? I have dominated page one for my local business. But Google maps is first thing you see in most local search results. I have not been able to get in my site in the local map section though.Just wondering if anyone had any knowledge about this.

Getting to page on for local search (maps) is often easier. Local search is all about local references, so to compete you need to have (well) local information. Try a local phone number on the page and a local street address. Also fill out a google profile with full local info. These is a few easy steps.

Try and get some backlinks from the local chamber of commerce, local "directories" and other local sites is another great way.

Also consider hunting for local keywords and using those, as they will have way less competition, and depending on the keyword might be a heck of a lot easier for you to get onto page one. e.g. Those keyword phrases with a city reference in them, etc.

    e.g. best dallas mechanic, etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

Hi Tim and thanks for the reply I have are ready done those thing you have suggested except chamber of commerce although I don't think my address in on my site but phone # is. I own page on for local search term with web 2.0 and my main domain my problem is the Google maps is 1st thing you see and I am not listed in those results. Plus I have an adwords ad listed on same page the only local one doing it. Well I'll keep at it and maybe Google will open the door and let me in the map listing lol

Are you localizing the query with a city name? When I search for my main keyword, I get my web listings but no map. The same search with 'in <mycity's name>' added to the search does bring up my map listing. I think Google Local sort of needs the address to localize you - adding your address may be a key step in getting your listing to show.

I would put the address on there as well. And any other local references you can think of. They do make a difference. The other thing to do if course is a little research on what your competitors are doing, check out their backlinks using yahoo site explorer, examine their landing pages, check their address, phone numbers, etc.

I assume it's a real address/phone number you have on there? Chances are if you are not listed and have been trying to for a while, is that google doesn't really think you are local and your ranking for the generic keyword phrase purely based on standard search engine rankings.

It might also be possible that you are outside of the list of local providers who are listed and need to do a little more to elevate yourself onto a displayed spot.

Good advice Mike. Yes you need an address so they can do that in our experience.

Very true, and obviously make sure your region is correct (the link above has

    Code:
    &gl=AU
in it, which means you would be submitting to Australian Google.

    Probably better to visit

    Code:
    http://www.google.com/local/add/lookup?welcome=false
Which should redirect to whatever country you are in.

    Cheers

Something I heard a while back was the use of meta tags to pin point your location, The report I read said that google will look at the tag and work out the location and that it then helps your local search results.

I have not tested this at all so maybe someone can tell us if it work or not??
