Page 1 YouTube thumbnails organic search

Can anyone tell me what I am doing right (or wrong!)
I have created a few videos and uploaded them to YouTube. 24 hours later I do a search for the keyword and there is my video on page 1 google as a thumbnail ---heck one is out of 14 plus million competes! Other videos I do I never see this happen. I have noticed it on Google.com but not in google.co.uk . Can anyone throw any light on all this please?

So let me get this straight. You video has gone straight to page 1 and you're complaining?

A few things to check here. Are you logged in to your gmail.com account (or another google service) ?

When you are logged in, Google tend to show you the results in a skewed order (based on stuff you have seen before, links you have gone to, etc). In other words Google will re-sort the search engine results taking into account your surfing history.

Gee aren't they nice?

So logout of Google and recheck. You may also have to clear cookies to truly get this to work.

Secondly, what is the phrase match competition e.g. search term in quotes? It's possible they really is not much competition there and you are doing well.

If there are no other videos (or very few) I've seen Google through some youtube videos onto page one quickly.

Are you doing any promotion to the video? Sometimes even 10 or less backlinks can dramatically elevate you to position 1.

Gotta love Youtube videos.

Lastly are you getting many views?

Thanks for that Tim, its still there when I key in cellphone brochures yet if I google cellphone brochure it doesn't appear on that page. Not so much as what I've done is why it is or isn't happening. Check out a few google searches and you'll see YouTube video thumbnails in some and nothing elsewhere. I'd love to knwo what exactly makes it happen or not happen!

They are two keyword phrases, one the plural the other not, which is why only one is showing up.

There are a number of factors here.

1. Competition - The lower the competition, or specifically the STRENGTH of the competition the more likely a video will be on page one.

Google as no doubt you know owns youtube and wants to have video results on every result page if they can, but only if the video is relevant to the search results.

You can help yourself here by linking related content TO your youtube video and make it easy for Google to understand.

2. Titles, descriptions, tags - If you do a good job with these, this will help a lot.

3. Related videos. If your videos are showing up as "related" videos for other youtube videos, that can help Google decide on your video. You can help yourself a little here by watching a video you would like your video to show up in related videos for, and then watch yours.

If enough people do this it can help dramatically.

4. Backlinks - If your video has any backlinks it can literally leapfrog the opposition and get you to page one. So take the time to add some !

5. Logged into to google. Are you logged into Gmail when checking search engine results? It's a known fact that Google gives you skewed results if you do this. It shows you popular pages you have visited before in elevated positions! So make sure you logout of google or use another browser to check your results, or preferably use a tool like market samurai to check.

NOTE: Clear your cookies once you logout as a cookie still tracks you after logging out of google. To truly see the real results you need to clear cookies.

Most likely it's own or more factors listed here that is helping you.

Try doing a "video" search in google and see where your video shows up. If it's #1 you are going to see your video often on page #1.

Make sure you send backlinks to your youtube videos ! It helps by a factor of about 20 to 1 compared to linking to regular pages in my experience.

Further "proof" that Google wants video results in regular search engine result pages.

I think what he was asking is why sometimes Google shows a thumbnail of the video in the search results and sometimes they don't. I could be wrong, but that's how I understood the question.

Just to be clear then, as maybe I missed it. The most likely reason they would not show a video in the search results (a thumbnail) is they cannot find a relevant one to show, or the pages that are on the page have such high authority as to have pushed the video to page 2, 3, etc.

If it's the first case, that could be a huge opportunity for you to get onto page one in that niche!
