  • Affiliate Links In Forum Posts

    Hi all,

I thought it wise to let you guys know about our policy with affiliate links.

Our forum rules are that you are not allowed to use an affiliate link or link to products or a website until you have reached a minimum of 20 posts.

Whilst we are not (yet at least) going to stop affiliate links in posts when you reach 20 posts, we are going to insist you mention they are affiliate links if you are going to use this.

This is in line with the new FTC rules which require you to disclose to anyone if you are making (or may make) a commission based on a recommendation you make.

Here is a post that discusses that.

    http://webtrafficandmarketing.com/fo...-confused.html

People come to this forum for advice, information, and in some cases recommendation. By including the fact that you may make an affiliate commission on a particular link will make it a totally transparent place and ensure the visitor is "fully informed".

We are affiliate marketers as well and no real issue with affiliate links provided full disclosure is made.

We will unfortunately have to delete posts that fail to honor this and possibly ban the user account. I hope it won't come to that. All you need to do is disclose affiliate links when they are used, no more, no less.

NOTE: We are talking about "in post" and "in your signature block" affiliate and other inks here.

Here is an example of a post we made that clearly discloses an affiliate link, so we would be looking for something along those lines. A reader would be clear that the poster was making a potential commission if the link was clicked.

I glad your relaxed about them... I'm quessing people in this forum know when their been presented with a genuine link to solve a problem or too go to someones.... site for an offer programme etc.

Self moderation in a forum is always a more relaxed and on my part more respected approach!

There does not seem to be anyway of reporting forum misuse.

I have just placed a post which consists of a genuine question regarding an error message and got a very extensive reply about loans for girlfriends.

How do we get rid of this spammer?

That's a good rule to have Tim.

Glad that you still allow affiliate links though...

I presume this rule also applies to our own product links and I don't mean re-hashed PLR but original products.

If I use my signature block to send visitors to a video that I produced which has a double opt in email and then send them an email describing the product with a link to it (which has disclosure on it )- is that considered a violation of any rule with in the forum?

The warning about affiliate links applies to your posts in this forum - nothing to do with your own sites. Is that what you were asking about?

Oh and I believe Michael has answered that other post you refer to
