how to find the best bookmarking sites for Germany?

    Hey guys,

my name is Kiril, I am from Berlin, Germany.

I figured out that some of the social bookmarking sites, like “digg.com”, perform very well in the US but pretty weak when you search with “Google.de” – the “German” Google.

What´s the reason for the different performance in different countries and, what´s even more important, how can I figure out which social bookmarking sites to use here in Germany in order to get good rankings on Google.de.

Does the performance of a social bookmarking site depend on the popularity of these sites in Germany or maybe on the traffic they get in Germany?

Thanks very much for your help. Kind regards from Berlin, Kiril

    Hi Kiril,

Google ranks sites by order of importance in regions such as Germany, Australia, etc. They take into account LOCAL websites when deciding the order, hence you would likely see a lot more german sites in your "German" google results which of course is as it should be.

Because digg.com is not a german site it is probably considered not as relevant by Google.

But you can still use them these sites to help your sites rank. Simple put up your content and then link to the sites you want to rank for using digg.com, etc.

If your site is in german or made for german local search (german references, addresses, etc) then using sites like digg.com to link to your content using your keyword can help absolutely.

So again to clarify the reason is Google is seeking to rank "local" sites giving the searcher more of a flavor for the region when they search (German in this case).

Effectively it's giving you the sites that Google believe is most relevant for German searchers.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Tim

Thanks very much, Tim, that was a great help because I was not sure if digg.com improves the ranking and if it makes sense to use it.

What I have found out so far is: „international“ sites that have a „German“ domain as well, such as: dailymotion.de or kewego.de tend to perform good when searching with „Google.de“. On the other hand, my video on Viddler didn’t show up on Google.de, but it had a pretty good ranking on the “US-“Google.

Especially well performs in Germany mister-wong.de.

So, maybe for all newbies, just like me, who are not in the USA it might be a good idea to check first which “international” bookmarking and video sharing sites have a “local representation” in your country and concentrate on these sites to get multiple rankings on Google. At least as far as Germany is concerned, it works.

    Kind regards from Berlin, Kiril

    Hi Kiril,

I think you will find digg will help your rankings.

Yes I would expect .de domains to do well in local search in Germany, but I am sure you will others .com will rank sometimes as well.

To get your video to rank locally you might have to do some "local search" SEO.

I think your advice is good about checking what is ranking in the local region! Thanks for sharing it.

    Regards

    Tim

    Thanks, Tim! :-)

By the way, I think that your product is BY FAR THE BEST product on this topic available on the market, and I have quite a few! And what I really appreciate is the fact that you are recommending only high-quality and reasonably priced products. Unfortunately, most info-marketers are recommending any garbage they can get commission from. So, keep up the great work!

I don’t know how many people here are not from the US and to what extend my “discoveries” regarding the “German Google” are beneficial to the people here. However, whenever I find something that seems to work in Germany pretty well and might work in other countries as well, I´ll share it. Maybe there are some people facing the same challenges here – to adapt the system to their “local” Google. I would appreciate exchanging some experience with these people, so feel free to get in touch with me.

Once again – thanks Tim for the really great work!

    Best regards, Kiril

    Hi Kiril,

Appreciate the kind words, thanks for that!

Yes both Anthony and myself are really careful not to recommend anything that we have not had good results with ourselves. This goes "against the grain" of many marketers as you point out. We think being ethical and upfront and honest is the best way to go, and hope all marketers get this message eventually!

By all means keep on talking about google local search, it's definitely a subject that many people will be interested in.

    Regards

    Tim
