    Too many backlinks too quickly

I think I have run into a major problem. I recruited an outsourcer to get some links for me and gave him a site and some initial keywords to get started on. He ws doing well but then I went into hospital and he continued building backlinks. We now have more backlinks that the top three sites have added together but are ranking at page three or lower on everything.

The domain was a year old when I started work on it so I thought the "sandbox" would not be a problem. Any way I get things reversed and get some decent ranking. I can't very well go back and delete all the links.

    Hiya Ron,

I'm not sure what to answer here, because there really isn't a question in your post but here are some thoughts...

Is it possible to build links too quickly? What if a post you made went viral? Should you get penalized for viral content? How varied was the link anchor text?

Is being on page three really being in the sandbox? I don't think it is. It also indicates that you haven't been deindexed. You say the domain is a year old, but has it been yours the entire time or have you only purchased it recently? An aged domain is not a guarantee to avoid the sandbox or a -999 penalty.

You're probably wanting to know what to do though. If it were my site, I'd gather as many keywords as possible and start creating a lot of high quality content for the site itself. You can also go through your server logs and analytics and find long tail search queries that you can use to tweak your existing content.

You can also check out this video which talks about looking for crawl errors and that sort of thing.

    Hope that helps,
    Chris

    Hi Ronson,

Getting lots of backlinks does not guarantee the good SERP as the more important part is where the backlinks came from? Thus, quality backlinks (i.e. backlinks from high PageRank or High TrustRank site) play a part here.

I agree. It doesnt mean that you have a lot of backlinks it will already help you. You have to consider the consistency of your keywords also.

Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node.
