Anyone Can Offer A SEO Recipe?

Everyone says that backlinks are important and I could not agree more. But instead of building backlinks in a haphazard way, can anyone point me to a place where I can learn to do backlinking in a more organised (but effective way).

Let me give you an example.....when we cook, there is a right way of adding ingredients into the pan...ie oil first, onions next, then add the fish, let it simmer for 10 mins, then add the salt etc etc. Cooking using the same ingredients but NOT following the steps makes the food taste different!!

I am in this position. I know the "ingredients" of backlinking but if I have a new site and wants to begin the backlinking exercise, what do I do 1st? Then 2nd? Then 3rd?

I am sure there are some great "SEO cooks" out there....can you point me to some that you find helpful? I need a great SEO Recipe!!

    Thanks.

    Hiya Doug,

There are a lot of different ways to do things, but if you're looking for a free step by step guide, Tim and Anthony already have their Ready to See One or More of your Keywords on PAGE ONE of GOOGLE in 12 days? “We Will Take You By The Hand And Show You How”! | . Dan Theis also has a great, "basic" book called SEO faststart. You can google that one and it's free. The SEO faststart book is more foundational in my opinion while the 12 days course is more of a step by step. Personally, I'd read them both.

    Hope that helps,
    Chris

If your backlinking exercise is organic and sans any conspired manipulation, you can do it in whichever order and proportion you wish. It won’t matter if social bookmarking is preceded by guest posting or something. I’d suggest you steer clear from the temptation to get into any form of link exchanging or paid linking.

Thanks for your help so far.
It is just that I am a newbie and really have no ability to do the trials and errors. Furthermore, all types of SEO needs to be evaluated (most of the time using tools) and I just do not know how and also just do not have the time to do so. Again the "cooking illustration".....the cook can try "experimenting" what ingredients to put in 1st and how long to cook them etc etc....and he may end up having a fantastic dish at the end of it. If I am a beginner cook, I would rather go to the store and buy a recipe book that tells me EXACTLY what to put in and how long to cook it for. I may not like the taste at the end of it ..... then I can tweak the recipe a bit (ie more pepper or salt etc etc).

It seems that this SEO Recipe seems to be more elusive than I thought. Many offer SEO guide...to me that are just the ingredients. I hope there are others who can advise me on this.

The step by step by TIM is great....one question though....what do I have to do after the 12 days are up? What do I have to do to maintain the Page 1 google position (assuming that I have reach there in 12 days).

    Hey Douglas,

My mini cookbook if you will always starts with onpage seo and then offpage seo:

    ONPAGE SEO

Step1: Make sure you have an EMD (Exact Match Domain). This will help you rank. I normally go for EXACTKEYWORD.net or EXACTKEYWORD.org since it helps differentiate your site from the .coms on page one ;-)

Step2: Include your keyword and LSI Keywords (If you just have one keyword) in your metadescription -- I use the ALL In One Seo plugin for wordpress to get this done.

Step3: Every post, page should pass the following tests:
    1. Your keyword in the url
    2. A H1 Tag that has your keyword in it.
    3. A H2, H3 Tag with your keyword in it.
    4. Bold, underlined and Italic keywords.
    5. Alternate Tags for your images that have your keyword in them.
    6. Keyword in the last sentence of your page/post
    7. add rel="nofollow" to your outgoing links (This prevents your site from being associated with any "bad neighborhoods" and maintains link juice within your site).

Step4: Make sure you link internally using your keywords as anchor text -- Awesome if you're building an authority site.

    OFFPAGE SEO
Contextual backlinks i.e., links within content are some of the most powerful backlinks you can get.

A 3x3 plan that works like gangbusters:
    1) Create a main article or get it outsourced -- 400 to 450 words.

    2) Spin the articles and have 3 keywords spread out in the article -- I rewrite each sentence myself.

Each keyword points to a different post/page on your site.

    Example:
    {I'm keyword1 and i point to post1|post2 has a keyword2|I'm a spun sentence part and contain keyword3 point to post3}

This is VERY powerful because each sentence will have at least one keyword pointing to one of your posts and as more articles get syndicated you'll notice your keywords march to page one

Tip: Don't get lazy and make sure you rewrite and/or spin your articles to avoid being penalized for duplicate content.

    3) Google "top article directories". Vretoolbar shows you the top50 article directories. Submit spun articles to all of them! (Alternatively there's always a content network like freetrafficsystem(dot)com that might come in handy -- Haven't tested them though so maybe someone else can chime in?)

    4) Once the articles are indexed ping them with pingler.com and if you're feeling extra masochistic social bookmark them all.

    5) Rinse and repeat.

    Hope that helped.
    Alex

Without being affiliated to this in any way, I would direct you to Craig Mayo's Fast Attack SEO - I think it should still be available in the Warrior Forum

    All the best
