Unhappy Does automatic linking really work?

    Hi,

My question it to all the forum members. I have been using various link building tools such as neurolinker, SENuke, etc. I don't see to notice much difference in terms of links generated. I mean you can always see the links created but 90% of those links are never indexed by Google. So, even if you create 100 links you will be surprised to see even 10 appearing in a month. I want people to share their best linking strategies and help each other.

    Regards
    Amarjit

If you are getting 10% of the links to stick, you are doing pretty good. I got trafficbug, and it has submitted thousands of links, rss feeds, etc, etc, and virtually none of them seem to count.

What has worked the very best for me is using Market Samurai's 'Find Content' and 'Promotion' (Find Backlinks) modules. I pull up as many articles as possible, use the 'Analyze All' functions on the results to get the PRs and Follow/Nofollow for each site, sort them by PR and start from the top. I look for topics I can comment on and drop backlinks into.

I hit a couple of goldmines this way. I commented on an article on a PR 5 site with follow left on, and posted a link to my page that dealt with the problem in the article. I got a high value backlink. Then, a few days later, I got two more from the same site - the post I made was at the top of the 'recent comments' box and that generated a link each time a new article was posted, and another for each archive they made. I stayed in the 'recent comments' box for months and got about 60 BL from one PR 5 site... Finding this site gave me a huge slurp of link juice...

How are you checking for the backlinks? Google have a policy of showing only about 5-10% of your backlinks ever which is not very nice, use Yahoo site explorer to look for them. Even if you are using Yahoo site explorer know that they are much much slower to pick up backlinks than Google.

Really the only sure way of knowing if its working is by checking out your rankings. If they are improving you're on the right track.

    Cheers

    Hi Tim,

I use everything market samurai, yahoo explorer, SE quake, backlinkwatcher and even google webmaster tools. The backlinks just don't show up.
I take your point that by checking rankings you kind of know that you are on right track but how do we measure this progress?

Should we keep building backlinks and not look at the numbers? because no matter what I use - 1waylinks, SE Nuke, neurolinker, etc. I just don't get to see the links.

    Regards
    Amarjit

    Tim,
I also use all the tools you mention plus SEO for FireFox. Samurai uses the Yahoo link count. There are some links that appear almost immediately and some that never do... I have had a few hits off the odd directory entries Traffic Bug has made, so I know the links do exist somewhere and people are using them. I think I have more hits from RSS feeds, tagging and pingbacks, and these do show in the back links count.

(aside: maybe I should check 'all counties' instead of U.S. to see these off-shore entries)

Amarjit, there is a rank-checking tool in Samurai that easily track the rank of any page in your web against any keyword you want to track - it even graphs your progress.

Most of those services use the identical service or just plain do not show you the links. Google is a classic here for showing 5% or so of any backlinks.

Yahoo is very slow at finding backlinks as well.

Remember just because you can't see the backlinks using third party software doesn't mean you don't have them, the backlinks are there.

Definitely do not worry obsessively on "seeing" the backlinks. Just know the right kind of promotion is giving you backlinks and keep working on that.

    Cheers

    Hi Tim,

I have started using 1waylinks after your recommendations. I must say I was over the moon when the links started appearing within a month. It's absolutely increadible. Some of the links were PR1 and PR2 which makes it even more worthwhile. What do you think that is down to? I am fully converted and may end up giving up neurolinker in favour of 1way. Would that be a good move?

1way guys also have a 3waylink service. I wonder if you have used it and have any comments on it?

    Regards

Have tried Traffic Bug but was pretty disappointed by the results, I think most of the truly automated systems produce links that remain unindexed or disappear quickly. If 90% of the links do not do you any good then it is probably not worth the $127 (SENuke) a month for the links that you actually get.

    Hi guys,

I find much better results are generally obtained with 1way links that most other services. We are currently in the process of testing 3waylinks and are not prepared to endorse it until we have good results with it. One negative with 3way links is that all the links disappear once you leave the service. With 1waylinks you get to keep the links permanently.

Certainly some services offer lower than expected results, but there is also a lot of other reasons why this happens, a lot of which is the competition of the keyword phrases you are targeting, for example. Most automated tools cannot help you if you go for a huge keyword phrase with high competition. Remember that a lot of keyword phrases even with a low number of competition pages (long tails even) can still be incredibly hard to succeed with because of the established competition.

For example if a lot of the entries on page one have thousands of links, high page rank, high authority, you may struggle getting past these guys. Nothing is impossible though, but you just need to make sure you so your homework.

Again I suggest people currently using Market samurai (and especially those not using it) to watch the videos on the link below. Assessing competition is vital, EVEN FOR LONG TAIL KEYWORDS.

How To Use Market Samurai Videos

If you assume that just be selecting a long tail keyword with a relatively small number of competing pages that you will succeed, then you may be wrong. Watch the videos (all of them ideally, but at least the competition ones to truly understand this).

Of course you don't have to use market samurai for this, you can do your own research. Market Samurai just makes it easier. My point here is to assess the competition!

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
