Submitting a video sitemap where? To other search engines?

A video sitemap is a great way to get your videos indexed and ranking. These are videos you have uploaded to your own site, and not youtube videos, etc.

If you're submitting sitemaps for URL's on other sites, it's a little pointless because you are driving traffic to them.

I meant to ask this as well.

We have around a 60 "protected videos" which we're using wishlist for.

Would it be a good idea to add them in a sitemap so that Google etc can see we have lots
of relative content or should we only submit videos that are not protected?

I'm guessing the latter but I thought I'd check anyway.

I don't think you will get extra value by submitting videos that are protected. Essentially if you submit a video sitemap of videos you are really want Google to index and rank them. Sounds like you don't want that for your protected videos.

video sitemaps are really something not many people are talking about. Using video sitemaps is a great way to get your videos on your own pages ranking well (as opposed to getting a video on youtube, etc ranking).

Can be a goldmine if you take the time to do it, particularly if others are not doing it!

Hey Tim,

You mentioned in an email recently that you were going to talk about Video sitemaps and how to set them up. Is this still something you have got planned.

I checked out that Google video sitemap link and it was gobbledegook to me...any plans to come out with some software to automatically create a video sitemap?

If I have youtube videos embedded on my site would a video sitemap grab those or would it only grab videos that are hosted on your site?

Hey Charl,

I'm assuming video site maps are generic here ...

Sitemapping is a two step process:

Step1: Creating the sitemap
Option1 (my tip): Use the google xml sitemap plugin for wordpress which automatically creates and saves a sitemap.xml in your webserver root directory e.g. mycooldomain(.)com/sitemap.xml

Option2: Use a service like xml-sitemaps(dot)com to create a sitemap. Download it to your desktop and upload it to your root folder on your server

Step2: "Adding" the sitemap
You add your sitemaps via the google webmaster tools (first hits on google).

There's an option to add the directory of your sitemap where you'll add the complete directory from step 1

Found an indian guy on youtube who explained how to create video sitemaps and i actually tried to dabble and create my own video sitemap: trafficultimatumbonusx(dot)info/make-clickbank-sales.xml.

Still haven't seen it picked up by the search engines though

Google "make clickbank sales". Looks like google indexed my video on youtube instead ... .
